It is easy to become a Forsyth Tech student! Students can pursue a degree, diploma or certificate or take only a few classes (Special Credit). Students who desire courses for personal and/or professional enrichment, but not for college credit, should contact the Corporate and Continuing Education campus at (336) 761-1002.
Forsyth Tech offers admission to anyone 18 years of age or older, or high school graduates 16 years of age or older. Under special circumstances applicants who are not high school graduates and are at least 16 years of age may be considered for specified vocational programs.
The "open-door" policy does allow admission to almost everyone, however it does not offer immediate admission to some degree/diploma programs. Depending on the program or course you select, the following list of procedures would determine the appropriate admission requirements for that program.
- Students admitted to all associate degree programs must have been awarded a high school diploma from an accredited secondary school or have earned either a GED or Adult High School Diploma.
- Degree and diploma* seeking students must complete placement tests prior to enrolling or show proficiency in college level English and math to be exempt. The results are used to ensure success in taking either individual courses or degree programs. If the results indicate a lack of academic readiness to begin college level course work, then appropriate developmental courses will be required.
* Not all diploma programs require testing, contact the Admissions Office for further details. - Certificate seeking students should contact the Admissions Office (336) 734-7253 for specific individual program requirements. In many curriculum areas, the courses completed in certificate programs count toward the diploma and/or the associate degrees.
- Special Credit students interested in only taking a few courses, but not seeking a degree, must meet all prerequisites per individual course.
- Students interested in pursuing a degree or diploma in any of the Forsyth Tech Health programs must follow the specific admission requirements that are listed per individual program. The Health programs have limited enrollment and are filled by a selective admissions process.
